Sacramento commuters could face slick pavement and slowed traffic on I-5 and Highway 99 by Wednesday morning as fall weather settles in. Drivers should use caution on wet roads, especially during the early rush hour, when reduced visibility and brief downpours may occur.

According to the National Weather Service in Sacramento, a 30 percent chance of showers arrives Tuesday night, building into Wednesday morning, October 1. The system will bring cooler air, with daytime highs falling near 70 degrees and overnight lows dipping into the upper 50s. Winds will remain light, though shifting patterns may briefly impact travel along I-80 through the Valley.

Rainfall amounts are expected to stay light, but any wet conditions could create hazardous spots for morning drivers. City streets in downtown Sacramento, Elk Grove, and Roseville may see pooling water in low-lying intersections. Caltrans advises reducing speed and allowing extra travel time during the Wednesday commute.

By Thursday, sunshine and warmer conditions return, kicking off October with a stretch of clear skies. Highs will climb back into the upper 70s Thursday and low 80s Friday, bringing a pleasant start to the weekend.

Residents should keep umbrellas handy until Wednesday afternoon but prepare for a warm, sunny weekend. Additional showers are not expected after midweek.

Warnings remain in effect through Wednesday morning, with updates expected if rainfall increases.
