SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Drivers across Northern California could see slick roads by Monday morning as scattered showers move into the Sacramento Valley. The unsettled weather arrives just in time for the workweek, creating potential delays on I-5, Highway 99, and surrounding routes. Motorists should allow extra travel time and keep headlights on during any rainfall.

According to the National Weather Service, cloud cover will increase tonight with lows near 63 degrees. A 40 percent chance of showers develops Monday, with the heaviest rain expected after sunrise. Rain chances rise to 50 percent Monday night before tapering off Tuesday morning. New rainfall totals will stay light, but enough to dampen commutes and reduce visibility.

Southwest winds between 5 and 10 mph could add an extra challenge for high-profile vehicles on exposed highways. Sacramento will top out around 74 degrees Monday, dipping to near 60 overnight before rebounding into the mid-70s Tuesday.

By Wednesday, lingering clouds will give way to drier air, though a 30 percent chance of showers remains in the morning. Sunshine returns Thursday and Friday, bringing highs in the mid-70s and lows in the upper 50s. October begins with calm, warmer weather, expected to last through the first weekend of the month.

Residents are urged to secure outdoor items ahead of Monday’s gusts and avoid unnecessary travel during the heaviest showers. More updates will be issued if rainfall increases or if new advisories are posted.
