Los Angeles, CA – Rain is expected across much of Central and Southern California beginning Tuesday, September 23, and continuing through Wednesday, September 24, according to the National Weather Service in Los Angeles/Oxnard.
The heaviest totals are forecast for the Central Coast, with Santa Maria, Lompoc, and San Luis Obispo expected to receive between 0.4 and 0.6 inches of rain. In Santa Barbara County, rainfall amounts may reach up to half an inch, while Los Angeles and Long Beach are forecast to see lighter totals near 0.1 inches.
According to the NWS, rain chances are highest in Santa Maria and Lompoc, with an 81% probability. Santa Barbara has a 75% chance, while Los Angeles faces a lower 46% chance. Inland areas such as Lancaster and Acton are expected to see lighter rain with a 30–40% chance of showers.
Officials warn thunderstorms are possible, which could lead to heavier localized rainfall, flooding, gusty winds, and even small hail. Burn scar areas, including Gifford and Lake scar regions, face heightened flash flood concerns.
Commuters should plan for slick roads, reduced visibility, and potential travel delays during the Tuesday morning and evening rush hours. The system is expected to taper off by late Wednesday.
