SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Northern California will see steady rain and light mountain snow through Sunday morning as a Pacific storm moves across the region, creating slick roads and minor travel delays from the Sacramento Valley to the Sierra Nevada.
According to the National Weather Service in Sacramento, snow levels will start near 8,000 feet on Friday and lower to around 5,500 to 6,500 feet by Sunday morning. Light accumulations are expected in higher passes, while valley areas could see ponding on roads from moderate rainfall.
The heaviest rain totals are forecast for the northern Sacramento Valley and surrounding foothills, where more than an inch of rain is possible. Motorists heading toward I-80 or Highway 50 should prepare for reduced visibility and wet pavement, especially during overnight hours.
Drivers are urged to check Caltrans QuickMap for live road updates and to allow extra travel time through mountain corridors. While major flooding or heavy snow are not anticipated, conditions may worsen briefly during stronger rain bands.
Showers are expected to taper off by late Sunday, with drier weather returning early next week.
