Sacramento, CA – Northern California residents should brace for rain and mountain snow Thursday as an active weather system moves through the region. Officials warn of potential travel disruptions, particularly in higher elevations.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS), the Sacramento Valley will see rain develop early Thursday, intensifying by the afternoon. Mountain regions, including the Sierra Nevada, are expected to receive several inches of snow, with hazardous driving conditions likely. Drivers on I-80 and other mountain routes should prepare for chain controls and delays.
Temperatures on Thursday will reach highs between 51 and 58 degrees in the valley, with mountain areas seeing highs in the 30s. Overnight lows will drop into the mid-40s in the valley and below freezing in higher elevations, increasing the risk of icy roads. Breezy winds may also affect visibility and travel.
Looking ahead, a brief break in precipitation is forecast for Friday, but another storm system is set to bring widespread rain and snow over the weekend. Residents are encouraged to stay informed, avoid unnecessary travel in impacted areas, and prepare for changing weather conditions.
