California wakes up to slick pavement and low clouds hugging parts of Los Angeles, with patchy fog still reducing visibility in pockets after 9 a.m. Drivers along I-5 and U.S. 101 may notice damp roads and brief drops in visibility before skies gradually brighten.
According to the National Weather Service in Los Angeles/Oxnard, fog will thin through late morning, leading to partial clearing and a high near 73 degrees. Light southwest winds around 5 to 10 mph will develop by afternoon, keeping conditions mild but comfortable across the basin.
East L.A. and downtown are starting in the lower 50s, a cool but not biting feel for early March. By midday, filtered sunshine will push temperatures into the low 70s. Expect similar readings Wednesday and Thursday, with highs near 71 and clearer skies settling in by Thursday afternoon. Plan outdoor lunches and afternoon walks accordingly.
No rain is expected locally, but a strong frontal system will trigger thunderstorms from the southern Plains to the Ohio Valley today. Meanwhile, a potent cold front will sweep into the Northwest by Wednesday, bringing mountain snow to the Rockies by Thursday night.
Here at home, above-average warmth builds into late week. Highs remain in the low 70s through Friday, then climb toward the upper 70s by the weekend. Early projections for the 6-10 day outlook favor continued warmth across California, signaling early spring heat potential.
We are also one week from the March 8 “Spring Ahead” time change. Longer daylight arrives fast, with nearly 70 extra minutes of evening light gained this month.
