California wakes to the sound of crashing surf along the San Diego coastline, where dark water pushes higher with each incoming wave. Parking lots glisten near the shore, and beach paths sit just inches above the tide line as conditions worsen early this morning.

According to the National Weather Service in San Diego, a Coastal Flood Advisory and High Surf Advisory take effect early Monday morning and remain active through Tuesday morning. Large breaking waves of 5 to 8 feet, with local sets reaching 9 feet, are expected along west-facing beaches, especially during morning high tides.

Minor coastal flooding is possible in low-lying areas, including beachside lots, parks, and access roads near La Jolla, Mission Beach, and Imperial Beach. While widespread closures are not expected, isolated road impacts may occur near the coast. Wet pavement and salt spray could complicate early travel near Highway 101 and other coastal routes.

Beach conditions turn dangerous fast. Strong wave energy and elevated tides increase the risk of rip currents, localized erosion, and sudden wave run-up. Inexperienced swimmers are urged to stay out of the water, and everyone should keep distance from rocks, jetties, and piers. Do not drive through standing water of unknown depth.

Away from the coast, San Diego County stays mild and mostly dry. Patchy dense fog may linger during early mornings, reducing visibility before sunshine takes over. Temperatures trend warmer into midweek, offering a calm contrast once coastal hazards ease.

By Tuesday afternoon, surf and tide levels slowly subside. Quiet, sunny weather dominates through the end of the workweek, with no additional coastal alerts expected if conditions improve as anticipated.
