California’s North Coast is already feeling the push of strong winds, and palm fronds in Eureka are snapping sideways in steady rain. Gusts are building along exposed headlands, and Highway 101 drivers are reporting crosswinds near open stretches of coastline.

According to the National Weather Service in Eureka, a Wind Advisory remains in effect from 7 a.m. today through 10 a.m. Sunday. Southeast winds of 25 to 35 mph are expected, with gusts up to 50 mph. Stronger gusts are likely along ridges and exposed coastal areas, especially near Trinidad, McKinleyville and Samoa.

Rain continues through the morning with highs near 57 degrees. Winds strengthen this afternoon, peaking tonight when gusts could reach 55 mph. Rainfall amounts remain light today, generally under a tenth of an inch before late evening.

Sunday stays wet and breezy, with highs near 59 degrees and gusts above 30 mph. Additional rainfall between a quarter and half inch is possible. By Monday, steady rain returns with another quarter to half inch likely, and heavier totals up to 2 inches possible Monday night.
