California’s capital is bracing for powerful wind gusts that are already rattling windows across Sacramento. South winds are increasing this morning, and stronger bursts will build through the day.

A Wind Advisory remains in effect for the Sacramento Valley until 10 p.m. Thursday. Gusts between 35 and 45 mph are expected, especially during the afternoon and again Wednesday. Sustained winds will range from 15 to 25 mph.

Drivers on Interstate 5 and Highway 99 should prepare for sudden crosswinds. High-profile vehicles will feel the strongest push. Loose outdoor items can blow around neighborhoods from Natomas to Elk Grove.

Temperatures climb near 49 degrees today with periods of rain developing. Showers continue into Wednesday with highs near 50. Winds remain gusty at times, creating choppy conditions and minor tree limb damage in isolated spots.

Secure patio furniture and trash bins now. Charge devices in case of brief outages. Tree limbs could come down where soils are saturated.

Rain chances stay elevated into Thursday, with highs again near the upper 40s. Winds gradually ease late Thursday night. Friday turns mostly sunny with a high near 50, offering a short break before additional showers return over the weekend.

Saturday trends wetter with highs in the mid-50s. Sunday looks mild and damp, nearing 59 degrees.

Looking ahead, the 6–10 day outlook signals above-normal temperatures across much of California. A warming trend builds early next week into late February, hinting at early spring warmth after this blustery stretch.

Wednesday: Chance of rain, high 50.
