California rain drums steadily on rooftops Monday morning as creeks swell and mist hangs low over highways. In far Northern California, conditions feel saturated and tense as another round of winter rain targets the North Coast.
According to the National Weather Service in Eureka, a Flood Watch remains in effect through Monday evening for Humboldt, Mendocino, Lake, and Trinity counties. Excessive rainfall may trigger flooding of creeks, streams, and low-lying roads. Additional rainfall through today could total 1 to 4 inches, with locally higher amounts possible near rivers such as the Garcia River north of Point Arena.
In Eureka, steady showers continue through the morning with highs near 52 degrees. Wet pavement and reduced visibility will impact travel along U.S. Route 101 and secondary roads, especially near known flood-prone spots. Rock and landslide risk increases along steep coastal roadways as soils remain saturated.
A Coastal Flood Advisory is also in effect late Monday morning through early afternoon for Humboldt Bay. High astronomical tides may cause minor flooding in low-lying shoreline areas. Water could briefly cover parks, coastal access roads, and areas near Jackson Ranch Road in the Arcata Bottoms and parts of King Salmon. Drivers should avoid driving through standing water and allow extra time.
Rain chances ease slightly Monday night but remain unsettled into Tuesday with patchy fog possible. Showers increase again Tuesday night and Wednesday, keeping creeks elevated and soils vulnerable. By Thursday, showers become more scattered, and a gradual drying trend begins late week.
Meteorologists continue tracking Pacific systems lined up offshore, meaning additional alerts remain possible. Residents should monitor local updates and be ready to act if flood warnings are issued.
