California – Water laps higher than usual along Bay shorelines this morning, and by midweek it may creep onto streets and parking lots. The air feels cool and calm now, but tides and rain are lining up as the region moves into the final days of 2025.

According to the National Weather Service, a Coastal Flood Advisory is in effect for low-lying bayside locations from early Wednesday morning through early Sunday afternoon. Forecasters warn of up to 1.3 feet of inundation above ground level near shorelines and tidal waterways around San Francisco and Monterey Bay.

Monday starts mostly sunny and dry, with highs near 58 degrees across San Francisco. Conditions remain quiet into Tuesday, though clouds increase by evening. Rain chances arrive Wednesday, coinciding with elevated high tides. That timing raises concern for flooding of lots, parks, and roads near the Bay, especially during morning high tide cycles.

Impacts are expected to remain minor, but nuisance flooding could disrupt New Year’s travel plans. Drivers near the Embarcadero, Highway 1, and bayside neighborhoods should expect ponding water and detours at times. Allow extra time if heading out Wednesday or New Year’s Day, and avoid driving through water of unknown depth.

Rain continues into Thursday, keeping pavement slick for holiday gatherings and return trips. While California avoids the snow and ice gripping much of the nation, the contrast is sharp. A powerful winter storm drives blizzards and Arctic cold elsewhere, while the West deals with tides, rain, and steady onshore flow.

Additional advisories remain possible if tides or rainfall increase. Planning to be near the water this week? Tell us what conditions look like where you are.
