Mojave, CA – The National Weather Service in Hanford has issued a Wind Advisory for the Mojave Desert Slopes, warning of gusts up to 50 mph expected to develop Saturday morning and persist through Sunday night.

According to the NWS, west winds between 20 and 30 mph will strengthen late Saturday morning and continue through 11 p.m. Sunday, creating hazardous travel conditions and the potential for downed tree limbs and scattered power outages.

Communities in and around Mojave are expected to see the strongest winds along desert slopes and open corridors, where gusts could briefly exceed 50 mph. Drivers—especially those operating high-profile vehicles or towing trailers—are urged to use caution and secure loose outdoor items before winds increase.

The agency advises that residents in affected areas should prepare for blowing dust and reduced visibility, particularly during afternoon and evening hours.

The advisory remains in effect from 11 a.m. Saturday, October 25, through 11 p.m. Sunday, October 26, covering much of Kern County’s desert corridor.
