Hanford, California – Dry winds and plunging humidity are raising the wildfire risk across the Mojave Slopes and Kern County Desert, with a moderate fire danger expected through Saturday. According to the National Weather Service in Hanford, minimum relative humidity values are forecast to drop near or below 10 percent, while sporadic wind gusts may reach or exceed 40 mph, creating dangerous fire-spread conditions each day.

Officials warn that these dry, gusty patterns could quickly turn a spark into a fast-moving fire, especially in areas where brush and grass remain parched. Local burn bans are in effect, and residents in communities such as Mojave, Rosamond, and California City are urged to know evacuation routes, keep emergency kits ready, and avoid any activities that could ignite dry grass—including using lawn mowers or dragging chains from vehicles. Fire agencies are also reminding homeowners to clear brush away from structures and to avoid outdoor equipment use during peak wind hours.

This period of increased risk will persist through Saturday, with fire danger decreasing only if humidity rises or winds ease. Additional advisories may be issued if conditions worsen.
