LOS ANGELES, Calif. – Triple-digit heat combined with late-summer thunderstorms could push parts of Southern California into dangerous conditions through Wednesday morning. Residents face both heat illness risks and a chance for lightning, heavy rain, and slick roads late Tuesday into early Wednesday.

According to the National Weather Service Los Angeles/Oxnard office, a Heat Advisory remains in effect for the San Fernando and San Gabriel valleys until 6 p.m. Tuesday, with highs ranging from 96 to 107 degrees. Thunderstorms may follow after sunset, creating hazardous travel along Interstates 5 and 210 as well as U.S. 101.

Officials urge residents to limit outdoor activity, especially for children, seniors, and those without air conditioning. Drivers should prepare for sudden downpours and poor visibility Tuesday evening. Those heading into mountain passes or commuting along I-5 near Santa Clarita could encounter heavy rain or isolated flooding.

Wednesday brings a shift. Skies will clear, and highs near Los Angeles will top out around 91 degrees under mostly sunny skies. Cooler air slides in by Thursday and Friday, giving residents a brief break from the oppressive heat.

Looking ahead, fall-like evenings with lows in the 60s will dominate much of the week. By the weekend, sunshine returns with highs in the mid-80s — a welcome change for outdoor plans and sports events.

Residents should continue monitoring updates, as additional advisories may be issued if storms redevelop Wednesday.
