Mojave, CA – A high wind warning remains in effect for the Mojave Desert Slopes until 5 p.m. PDT Friday, with damaging gusts expected to impact the region.
According to the National Weather Service in Hanford, west winds are forecasted to reach sustained speeds of 30 to 40 mph, with gusts up to 65 mph. These powerful winds could lead to widespread power outages as trees and power lines may be brought down. High-profile vehicles will face difficult travel conditions along highways and open desert areas.
Residents are advised to take precautions, including securing loose objects and avoiding unnecessary travel. The National Weather Service recommends staying in the lower levels of homes and away from windows to reduce the risk of injury from flying debris or falling tree limbs.
The strongest winds are expected to persist through Friday afternoon before gradually subsiding. Motorists should exercise extreme caution, particularly on Interstate 15 and State Route 58, where crosswinds may create hazardous driving conditions.
Emergency services urge residents to report downed power lines and outages immediately. Those in affected areas should prepare for possible extended power disruptions and have emergency supplies on hand.
