Sacramento, CA – A strong storm system is bringing heavy rain, mountain snow, and flood risks to Northern California this weekend, prompting weather alerts through Sunday night.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS) Sacramento, a Flood Watch remains in effect below 6,500 feet through 10 p.m. Sunday, with a Winter Weather Advisory above 6,500 feet until 4 a.m. Sunday. Valley areas, including Sacramento, could see up to 4 inches of rain, while the Sierra Nevada may receive 12 to 18 inches of snow above 7,000 feet. Gusty winds could reach 45 to 60 mph, further complicating travel.
Key impacts: Flooding is possible in urban areas, low-lying regions, and along rivers and creeks. Mountain passes may experience dangerous whiteout conditions. Travelers should check road conditions at quickmap.dot.ca.gov before heading out.
Looking ahead, showers will persist into Monday, with additional rainfall and cooler temperatures. Dry weather is expected by midweek.
