Hanford, Calif. – Drivers across the San Joaquin Valley could face dangerous flooding today as heavy rain lingers through Friday afternoon. Creeks, streams, and flood-prone roads, including stretches of Interstate 5 and Highway 198, may see high water during the morning commute. Residents are urged to avoid low-lying roads and remain alert for sudden street closures.

According to the National Weather Service in Hanford, a Flood Watch remains in effect until 5 p.m. Friday. Forecasters warn that excessive runoff from overnight rain could trigger flooding across Fresno, Kings, Tulare, and Kern counties. Cities including Hanford, Visalia, and Bakersfield may experience localized flooding, especially in poorly drained neighborhoods.

By Friday night, skies will clear, and drier air will bring a sharp turnaround heading into the weekend. Saturday and Sunday look sunny and seasonably warm, offering a welcome break for travelers, farmers, and families with outdoor plans. Afternoon highs will climb toward the upper 80s, with little to no wind.

Relief comes quickly, but safety remains critical. Even after rainfall ends, leftover standing water could hide potholes, debris, or damaged pavement. Drivers should slow down, avoid flooded roadways, and give extra time for school buses and emergency crews.

Looking ahead, fall warmth will dominate much of next week. Monday and Tuesday will stay mostly clear with highs near 90, while a slight chance of thunderstorms may develop late Tuesday into early Wednesday.

Warnings remain in place through Friday afternoon, with updates expected as conditions improve. Residents should stay weather-aware and continue checking alerts before heading out.
