Los Angeles, CA – Parts of Southern California will wake up to an unusually cold start Tuesday as the National Weather Service (NWS) issues a Frost Advisory for the Antelope Valley and the interior valleys of San Luis Obispo County. The alert is in effect from 2 a.m. to 9 a.m. Tuesday, with temperatures expected to fall to around 32 degrees, cold enough to damage or kill sensitive plants.

According to the NWS Los Angeles/Oxnard office, clear skies and calm overnight winds will allow temperatures to drop rapidly before sunrise. Locations including Lancaster, Palmdale, Lake Los Angeles, Shandon, Creston, and the Carrizo Plain are all included in the advisory area.

While the cold spell is brief, forecasters warn that frost formation is likely, especially in low-lying, sheltered areas. Gardeners and homeowners are urged to take immediate action to protect vulnerable vegetation, as even a light frost can harm or kill exposed plants.

The advisory comes as a cooler air mass settles over Southern California following recent dry conditions. No major wind impacts are expected, but the NWS emphasizes that frost risks increase under calm, clear skies.

Residents should cover outdoor plants, bring potted vegetation indoors if possible, and avoid watering late in the evening, which can worsen frost damage. Pets that are sensitive to cold should also be brought inside overnight.

The frost threat will diminish by mid-morning Tuesday as temperatures climb quickly after sunrise. No additional overnight frost advisories have been issued yet, but forecasters recommend monitoring updates in case colder conditions return later this week.
