Fresno, Calif. – A strong surge of unseasonable heat is set to expand across central California and Nevada, driving temperatures well above late-March averages and delivering ideal travel conditions during the spring break period.
According to the National Weather Service Climate Prediction Center, this region will experience temperatures running 50 to 80 percent above normal from March 24 through March 30, while precipitation trends lean below normal. This pattern supports extended sunshine with little to no rainfall.
Across Fresno, Bakersfield, Sacramento Valley, Reno, and Carson City, daytime highs are expected to climb into the 70s and low 80s, with some interior valley locations pushing the mid-80s. Morning temperatures will remain mild in the 40s and 50s. Major routes including I-5, Highway 99, I-80, and U.S. 395 are expected to remain dry, supporting steady travel across the region.
Drivers should remain aware of potential morning fog in California’s Central Valley, which could briefly reduce visibility below one mile before clearing by mid-morning. Otherwise, widespread hazards are not expected, and visibility will remain high.
For baseball fans across California and Nevada, including those following the Dodgers, Giants, and Athletics, the opening stretch of the season will feel more like early summer, with light clothing recommended.
This warm, dry pattern is expected to hold through late March, with only minor changes possible heading into early April.
