EUREKA, Calif. — Steady rain drenched northwestern California Saturday morning, prompting a Flood Advisory for Humboldt County as creeks and low-lying areas filled quickly. The National Weather Service in Eureka said flooding of small streams and poor drainage zones could continue through at least 2:30 p.m.

According to the NWS, Doppler radar detected heavy rainfall near midday, with 1 to 1.5 inches already falling between 8 a.m. and 11 a.m. Some locations, including Honeydew and nearby communities, may see additional rainfall before conditions begin to improve this afternoon.

Drivers are urged to avoid water-covered roadways and find alternate routes as flash flooding can occur suddenly. The Weather Service emphasized that most flood deaths occur in vehicles and advised residents to “Turn around, don’t drown.”

Localized flooding may persist into the evening if heavier rain bands redevelop. Officials will continue to monitor streams and update advisories if conditions worsen.

Advisory in effect until 2:30 p.m. PST Saturday
