Sacramento, CA – Residents of Sacramento and surrounding areas should prepare for a mix of rain and high elevation snow beginning Sunday and lasting through Tuesday. The National Weather Service warns of slick roads, fallen tree branches, and potential travel disruptions along I-5 and I-80. With rain hitting the valley and snow in higher altitudes, motorists should plan for slower travel, particularly in mountainous regions.

According to the National Weather Service in Sacramento, the storm is expected to arrive late Sunday afternoon and continue into Tuesday. Rain showers will bring up to 0.25 inches of rain to the valley, with isolated thunderstorms possible. Elevations between 5,000 and 6,500 feet could see 2-3 inches of snow, with the heaviest snow predicted Monday night into Tuesday.

Drivers should exercise caution as the storm will likely create hazardous conditions on I-5 and I-80, especially for those heading into the Sierra Nevada mountains. The weather service advises packing emergency kits and checking tire chains if traveling in higher elevations. Downed tree branches due to gusty winds may also affect power lines, causing possible outages.

The five-day forecast for Sacramento shows increasing cloud coverage on Saturday, with a high of 77°F. Showers are expected Sunday night into Monday, with temperatures dropping to 67°F. Clear skies are predicted to return by Tuesday, with a high near 69°F. However, cooler weather will persist into mid-week, with highs only reaching the mid-60s.
