California’s calm start will not last. A powerful push of wind is lining up for Sacramento, and by late Monday morning, tree branches and loose debris could start flying.
According to the National Weather Service in Sacramento, a Wind Advisory takes effect at 10 a.m. Monday and continues through 10 p.m. Wednesday. South winds of 15 to 25 mph are expected, with gusts reaching 35 to 45 mph across the Sacramento Valley. Cities including Sacramento, Roseville, Chico, Yuba City and Redding fall under the advisory.
Today stays mostly cloudy with a high near 59 degrees. Rain becomes more likely Sunday, with highs climbing into the lower 60s before steadier rain develops Sunday night. By President’s Day Monday, rain continues with highs near 51 degrees, and winds begin strengthening through midday.
Driving may become difficult, especially for high-profile vehicles on I-5, Highway 99 and Interstate 80. Gusts could push vehicles sideways on exposed stretches and bridges. Secure patio furniture and trash bins before Monday morning. Isolated power outages are possible as tree limbs snap.
Rain lingers into Tuesday with highs near 49 degrees and additional showers through midweek. Temperatures dip into the low 40s at night, but no valley snow is expected.
Looking ahead, longer-range trends show a warming shift late next week. President’s Day Week may end with milder afternoons and early spring vibes returning to Northern California.
