LOS ANGELES – A thick blanket of fog clings to the Los Angeles Basin before dawn, muting headlights and muffling traffic along the 405 and I-10 corridors. Visibility has plunged below a quarter mile in spots from Malibu to Downtown L.A., and the National Weather Service has issued a Dense Fog Advisory through 9 a.m. PST Tuesday morning.

Drivers across coastal and inland neighborhoods are urged to slow down, use headlights, and keep extra distance between vehicles. According to the NWS in Oxnard, visibility may improve gradually after sunrise but could remain patchy near beaches and low-lying valleys until late morning. The advisory includes Los Angeles and Santa Barbara County beaches, Malibu, Hollywood, Torrance, and Culver City.

After the fog lifts, skies will turn partly sunny with highs near 80 degrees — a brief calm before wetter, cooler weather moves in. Clouds will thicken Wednesday, and showers are likely by Thursday as a Pacific system slides inland. Forecasters expect the first drops around midmorning Thursday, followed by steadier rain Thursday night and Friday. Light rainfall could total up to a half inch, with slick streets and slower commutes expected through the end of the workweek.

The weekend looks more comfortable, with partial clearing and highs in the upper 60s. Still, this shift signals the start of L.A.’s late-fall transition — foggy mornings, breezy afternoons, and a November rain tease reminding residents that winter’s rhythm is quietly returning to Southern California.
