Hanford, Calif. – A wall of fog has settled thick across the San Joaquin Valley this morning, reducing visibility to less than a quarter-mile in several areas. Drivers from Hanford to Visalia and along Highway 198 are urged to slow down, use headlights, and leave extra space on slick roads. By late morning, the fog will begin to thin, giving way to the kind of golden fall sunshine that defines California’s late-October calm.

According to the National Weather Service in Hanford, a Dense Fog Advisory remains in effect until 10 a.m. Tuesday for much of Kings and Tulare Counties, including Lemoore, Corcoran, and Porterville. The still, cool air trapped overnight allowed moisture to pool near the surface, creating the dense layer now blanketing fields, orchards, and roadways. Travel hazards will persist through midmorning, particularly near low-lying farmland and canals where fog tends to linger longest.

Once the fog clears, high pressure builds overhead, keeping skies bright and temperatures unseasonably warm through Thursday. Afternoon highs will climb into the mid-70s to upper 70s, with light winds and crisp evenings near 50°F. That sets up a near-perfect stretch for Halloween week — calm, mild, and dry for evening trick-or-treat plans across the southern valley.

Looking ahead, the region stays dry through the weekend before a gradual pattern change early next week could bring cooler air and perhaps the season’s first rain chance. For now, the fog is today’s biggest challenge — and a gentle reminder that November’s chill is waiting just around the bend.
