SAN DIEGO, Calif. – The coastline looks calm from a distance, but step outside before sunrise and it’s a different story. Thick fog drapes over the San Diego region, muffling sounds and reducing visibility to near zero in some coastal neighborhoods. Headlights glow faintly through the gray as drivers navigate I-5, I-805, and Highway 163 at a crawl, gripping the wheel and watching for the next set of brake lights.

The National Weather Service in San Diego has issued a Dense Fog Advisory in effect until 9 a.m. PST, warning of visibility dropping below a quarter mile across the county’s coastal areas — including Encinitas, Chula Vista, National City, Oceanside, and Carlsbad. Commuters and early travelers should allow extra time, use headlights, and leave plenty of distance between vehicles.

By mid-morning, sunshine should burn through the haze, revealing a bright and warm day ahead with highs near 75°F. Monday will turn even warmer, pushing toward 82°F, before midweek clouds begin to return. Veterans Day looks mild and mostly sunny, ideal for outdoor events and travel.

Later in the week, a shift in the Pacific pattern could bring cooler temperatures and light coastal showers by Thursday, though confidence remains low. For now, this morning’s fog is the main concern, a reminder that Southern California’s November mornings can still challenge even the most seasoned drivers.

Five-Day Outlook for San Diego, CA:
