Oakland, CA – Commuters across the East Bay Interior Valleys may face hazardous visibility conditions Thursday morning as a Dense Fog Advisory remains in effect until 10 a.m., according to the National Weather Service San Francisco Bay Area.
Forecasters warn that patches of dense fog could reduce visibility to one-quarter mile or less, especially in low-lying inland valleys across Alameda and Contra Costa counties. Cities such as Livermore, Pleasanton, Dublin, Concord, Walnut Creek, and San Ramon are included in the advisory.
The fog is expected to thicken during the early morning hours before gradually lifting by mid-morning as temperatures rise. NWS officials stress that the combination of dark pre-dawn travel and sudden pockets of thick fog could significantly slow travel and increase the risk of accidents.
Drivers are strongly advised to slow down, use low-beam headlights, and leave extra distance between vehicles. High-beam headlights are discouraged because they reflect off the fog and worsen visibility. Motorists traveling through valleys, near reservoirs, and along stretches of I-580, I-680, Highway 4, and Vasco Road may experience the most significant impacts.
While the advisory is expected to expire by late morning, lingering fog may continue to affect sheltered areas through mid-morning before full clearing occurs.
With heavier Thanksgiving holiday traffic expected across the region, NWS officials recommend planning for potential delays, particularly for those traveling early Thursday.
