Eureka, CA – Northern California is bracing for frigid conditions as a Cold Weather Advisory remains in effect until 9 a.m. Tuesday, with wind chills expected to drop as low as 22°F in some areas.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) Eureka, the advisory covers Del Norte, Humboldt, and Mendocino counties, along with parts of Southern Lake County. The coldest temperatures are expected between 2 a.m. and 9 a.m. Tuesday, with actual lows ranging from 29°F to 33°F, and wind chills making it feel even colder.

Officials warn that prolonged exposure to these conditions could lead to hypothermiaor frostbite, particularly for vulnerable populations. Residents are advised to dress in layers, wear hats and gloves, and avoid prolonged outdoor exposure. Pet owners should keep animals indoors as much as possible.

Travelers should use caution as frost may develop on roadways, leading to potentially hazardous driving conditions. Residents using portable heaters are urged to follow safety guidelines to prevent fires or carbon monoxide poisoning.

Temperatures are expected to gradually warm later in the week, with rain returning by Wednesday night.
