San Francisco, Calif. – Coastal neighborhoods around the San Francisco Bay and San Pablo Bay could see minor flooding Tuesday night as high tide peaks during overnight hours.
According to the National Weather Service San Francisco Bay Area office, a Coastal Flood Advisory is in effect from 8 p.m. Tuesday to 1 a.m. Wednesday, with flooding possible in low-lying bayshore zones. Impacted areas include San Francisco, Oakland, Richmond, Concord, San Rafael, and parts of Santa Clara County.
Water may cover parks, trails, and roadways near the shoreline, particularly in spots with poor drainage. While widespread closures aren’t expected, drivers are urged to avoid water-covered roads, especially at night when hazards are harder to see. The NWS warns: “Do not drive around barricades or through water of unknown depth.”
This advisory aligns with the seasonal astronomical high tides, which have historically caused minor flooding in this region. Residents should elevate outdoor belongings, check tide charts, and monitor conditions closely if traveling near the coast.
The advisory expires at 1 a.m. Wednesday, but additional alerts could be issued later this week if tidal conditions persist.
