Los Angeles, California – A warmer-than-normal weather pattern is expected to dominate Southern California from Friday through early the following week, bringing mild afternoons, cool nights, and precipitation chances that remain close to seasonal averages.
According to the National Weather Service Climate Prediction Center, the 8 to 14-day outlook for Jan. 30 through Feb. 5 favors above-normal temperatures across much of Southern California. The strongest warm signal stretches along the Pacific Coast and inland through parts of California, placing the region outside the core of the colder pattern impacting the central and eastern United States.
High temperatures across Los Angeles, San Diego, Riverside, San Bernardino, and Orange County are expected to trend a few degrees above late-winter averages. Inland valleys and lower deserts may see especially mild afternoons, while overnight lows remain cool but largely above freezing for most populated areas. Coastal communities are also expected to experience pleasant daytime conditions with limited marine influence.
Precipitation during this period is expected to remain near normal for Southern California. That means dry stretches will dominate, but occasional weak systems could bring light rain, mainly to coastal and valley locations. Significant or prolonged rainfall is not indicated at this time, and snow is expected to remain confined to the highest elevations of the San Bernardino and San Gabriel Mountains, if it occurs at all.
This pattern stands in contrast to Northern California and the Pacific Northwest, where above-normal precipitation is more likely. Across Southern California, storm systems are expected to weaken as they move south, limiting impacts.
Residents should take advantage of the milder weather while continuing to monitor conditions for any passing systems. With above-normal temperatures and average precipitation chances, fire weather concerns remain low but outdoor conditions will feel more spring-like than typical for late January. Additional outlook updates are expected as confidence continues to improve closer to the period.
