Los Angeles, California – Drivers crossing the San Gabriel Mountains early Friday face powerful winds strong enough to knock down trees and disrupt power across several mountain communities through Saturday afternoon.

According to the National Weather Service in Los Angeles/Oxnard, a High Wind Warning remains in effect for the Santa Susana Mountains, the western and eastern San Gabriel Mountains, and the Highway 14 corridor until 3 p.m. PST Saturday. Northeast winds of 25 to 35 mph are expected, with peak gusts reaching 55 mph along exposed ridges and passes.

The strongest winds are expected near Acton, Wrightwood, Mount Baldy, and Mount Wilson, as well as along the Angeles Crest Highway and Highway 14 corridor, where crosswinds could make travel dangerous for trucks, vans, and other high-profile vehicles. Blowing debris and falling tree limbs could briefly block mountain roads.

Utility disruptions are also possible as gusts push against power infrastructure in higher elevations. Communities including Warm Springs, Mill Creek, and Oat Mountain may see isolated outages if branches fall into power lines.

Emergency officials urge residents to stay in the lower levels of their homes and avoid windows during peak wind periods. Drivers should reduce speed and remain alert for sudden crosswinds, especially on open ridgelines and canyon routes.

The strongest winds are expected to persist through Friday night before gradually easing Saturday afternoon. Additional advisories could be issued if conditions intensify.
