Bakersfield, California – Drivers across the Mojave Desert could face dangerous crosswinds starting at 4 p.m. Monday, with gusts up to 45 mph expected to impact major routes overnight.

According to the National Weather Service in Hanford, a Wind Advisory is in effect from 4 p.m. Monday through 5 a.m. Tuesday for areas including Mojave, Tehachapi, and Ridgecrest. Sustained northwest winds of 15 to 25 mph will strengthen through the evening, with a 70 to 80 percent chance of gusts exceeding 40 mph.

The strongest impacts are expected along Highway 58, Highway 14, and U.S. 395, where blowing dust and sudden gusts could make travel hazardous, especially for trucks, RVs, and other high-profile vehicles. Areas near Tehachapi Pass and Edwards Air Force Base may experience the most intense wind conditions.

Residents should secure loose outdoor items and avoid unnecessary travel during peak wind hours overnight. Power outages are not widespread concerns but cannot be ruled out in isolated areas.

Winds will begin to ease after 5 a.m. Tuesday, but additional advisories could be issued if conditions persist.
