Hanford, CA – A powerful low-pressure system off the Pacific Northwest coast is forecast to move inland this weekend, bringing potentially hazardous winds to parts of central and southern California on Saturday.

According to the US National Weather Service in Hanford, there is more than a 90 percent chance that wind gusts will exceed 40 mph along CA Highway 14, US Highway 395, and across the Mojave Slopes during the day. The strongest winds are expected to hit the lee side of the Sierra Nevada mountains, posing travel risks for high-profile vehicles and potentially creating areas of blowing dust.

Forecasters say the gusty conditions will develop as the system moves across the western U.S., tightening the pressure gradient and funneling stronger winds through mountain passes and desert corridors. Drivers traveling through Kern, Inyo, and Mono Counties should be prepared for reduced visibility and possible travel delays through Saturday evening.

Residents are urged to secure outdoor objects and monitor updated forecasts from the National Weather Service as conditions evolve.
