San Francisco, California – Travel above 3,000 feet across the Central Coast and eastern Santa Clara County will become increasingly hazardous through Wednesday afternoon as heavy snow and strong winds grip the region’s higher terrain.
According to the National Weather Service in San Francisco, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 4 p.m. Wednesday for the Santa Lucia Mountains, Los Padres National Forest, the mountains of San Benito County and interior Monterey County, including areas near Pinnacles National Park. Snow totals of 5 to 10 inches are expected above 3,000 feet, with the highest peaks picking up 15 to 25 inches. Wind gusts between 50 and 60 mph above 2,000 feet will reduce visibility and increase the risk of downed trees.
A separate advisory runs from 6 a.m. Tuesday through 4 p.m. Wednesday for the Eastern Santa Clara Hills, including Cordoza Ridge. Elevations above 3,000 feet could see 4 to 8 inches of snow, impacting Highway 130 and mountain roads.
Drivers and outdoor enthusiasts should delay non-essential travel, carry emergency supplies and prepare for possible power outages. Hazardous conditions will persist through Wednesday afternoon as cold air and additional snow showers continue.
