Hanford, CA – The US National Weather Service in Hanford reports that a storm system is expected to move through central California beginning Wednesday morning, potentially bringing light snowfall to the higher elevations of the Sierra Nevada through Thursday morning.
Forecasters say 1 to 2 inches of snow are possible in areas above 7,500 feet, with snow levels gradually rising to around 9,500 feet as temperatures climb during the day. Most of the snowfall is expected to occur in and around the Yosemite National Park region, with some potential extending slightly south along the crest.
The weather service advises travelers and park visitors to prepare for slick or icy conditions at higher passes and to check local forecasts before heading into the mountains. The system is expected to move out by Thursday afternoon, leading to drier but cooler weather for the weekend.
While the snow is expected to be light, it could mark the first measurable accumulation of the season for Yosemite and nearby peaks.
