Seattle, WA – A powerful atmospheric river is forecast to impact the Western United States between October 25–29, bringing heavy rainfall, mountain snow, and strong winds across multiple states, according to the NOAA Climate Prediction Center.

Forecasters say areas from western Washington to northern California face a high risk (over 60% confidence) of heavy precipitation, with flooding possible from northwestern California to southern Oregon. Meanwhile, heavy snow is expected across the Cascades, Sierra Nevada, and Northern Rockies, especially at higher elevations where accumulations could be significant.

High winds are also forecast for western Washington and northern California, with moderate chances (40–60%) of strong winds extending inland through Montana, Wyoming, and the Four Corners region.

Travel is likely to be impacted by snow, rain, and gusty winds, with urban and small-stream flooding possible in low-lying areas. The CPC advises residents to monitor updated forecasts as the storm’s timing and intensity become clearer closer to the event.
