San Francisco, CA – A series of powerful storm systems will impact the Bay Area and Northern California starting Thursday, bringing heavy rain, strong winds, and potential flooding. Residents are urged to prepare for dangerous conditions through early next week.

According to the National Weather Service, rainfall will begin Thursday afternoon and intensify into the weekend. The first system is expected to deliver light to moderate rain on Thursday and Friday, with more intense downpours and wind gusts of 35+ mph arriving by Monday and Tuesday. High-impact areas include coastal regions, valleys, and elevated terrain.

Forecasters report that between 1-3 inches of rain may fall in valleys, with up to 5 inches in higher elevations. Coastal roads like Highway 1 and interior routes face slick conditions and possible water pooling. Motorists are advised to avoid low-lying areas and exercise caution when driving through heavy rain or wind-prone zones.

Strong gusts could also down trees, power lines, and unsecured objects. Power outages remain a possibility, especially along coastal communities and elevated passes. Officials recommend securing outdoor furniture, checking emergency kits, and avoiding unnecessary travel during the peak of the storm.

By Monday and Tuesday, the second system may deliver additional widespread rainfall, increasing the risk of urban and small-stream flooding. Local authorities urge residents to “Turn around, don’t drown” when encountering flooded roadways.

Conditions are expected to ease by midweek, though lingering showers may persist. Residents should monitor updates from the National Weather Service and local agencies for the latest storm forecasts and safety information.
