San Francisco, CA – Two significant rain systems are set to bring widespread rainfall and possible minor flooding to the Bay Area starting Thursday. Officials urge drivers to prepare for slick roadways and reduced visibility, particularly in Sonoma and Napa counties.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS), the first rain system will arrive late Wednesday night, delivering light to moderate rainfall primarily to the North Bay. The second, more intense storm will follow on Friday and Saturday, bringing widespread rain across the region. Rain totals could exceed 1.5 inches in some areas, increasing the risk of minor urban flooding and small stream overflow.

Forecasters predict Thursday’s high near 59°F, with rain likely during the morning and a chance of clearing later in the day. Friday evening through Saturday, heavier rains and wind gusts up to 18 mph will develop, potentially causing hazardous conditions for weekend travel.

Drivers on major roadways, including Highway 101 and Interstate 80, are advised to slow down, maintain a safe distance, and stay updated on local traffic reports. Residents in low-lying or flood-prone areas should monitor alerts and consider sandbagging.

The extended forecast shows rain chances persisting into Sunday and early next week, with highs ranging from the upper 50s to low 60s. The NWS recommends staying prepared with rain gear and extra commute time during peak precipitation periods.
