Eureka, CA – Northern California is facing a stormy start to the week as a flood watch and wind advisory remain in effect for Humboldt County. Strong winds and heavy rain are expected to continue through Monday, with flood risks increasing due to already saturated ground.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Eureka, a flood watch remains in effect through Sunday evening, with additional rainfall of 2 to 6 inches expected. Some areas, particularly windward-facing terrain, could see up to 8 inches. Excessive runoff may lead to flooding in rivers, creeks, and flood-prone urban areas.
A wind advisory is also in effect until 5 p.m. Sunday, with gusts reaching up to 60 mph, particularly along ridges and coastal headlands. The strong winds could bring down trees and power lines, creating hazardous road conditions.
Looking ahead, Monday will bring more showers, with highs in the low 50s. By Tuesday, rain chances decrease, and partly sunny skies return. Spring officially begins Thursday, but wet conditions are likely to persist through the weekend.
Drivers should remain cautious, especially on Highway 101, where flooding and debris could impact travel. Residents in low-lying areas should monitor for updates and be prepared for possible evacuations. For the latest forecasts, visit weather.gov.
