Eureka, California – Scattered thunderstorms are set to heighten wildfire danger across parts of Northern California through 11 p.m. Tuesday, with Trinity County and surrounding inland areas facing the most serious threats.

According to the National Weather Service in Eureka, a Red Flag Warning is now in effect for Trinity County, interior Humboldt, northeastern Mendocino, and northern Lake counties. There’s a 20% to 30% chance of thunderstorms developing in the region, especially during the afternoon and evening hours today and Tuesday. These storms could bring deadly lightning, erratic winds, and spark new wildfires in already dry terrain.

Communities including Weaverville, Hoopa, Laytonville, and Hayfork should remain alert. Residents are urged to postpone outdoor work, secure flammable materials, and seek shelter indoors when thunder is heard. Winds may shift rapidly near storm cells, increasing risk for fast-moving fires.

This is the most significant fire weather risk in weeks for the area, with conditions rated “major” in intensity. Emergency officials stress the need for vigilance, particularly in wilderness zones and remote communities.

The Red Flag Warning remains in effect until 11 p.m. Tuesday, and additional alerts could be issued if storm conditions persist or worsen.
