Las Vegas, NV – A powerful winter storm is expected to bring heavy snowfall and strong winds to mountainous areas of California and Nevada through Friday afternoon. The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning for the Eastern Sierra Slopes, White Mountains, Spring Mountains, and Sheep Range, where snow accumulation could make travel dangerous.
According to the National Weather Service Las Vegas, elevations above 7,000 feet in the Eastern Sierra and White Mountains could see 2 to 4 feet of snow, with even higher totals at mountain peaks. Winds along the Sierra crest may gust up to 60 mph, increasing the risk of tree damage.
In Nevada, the Spring Mountains and Sheep Range could receive 12 to 24 inches of snow, with snowfall rates reaching 2 to 3 inches per hour at times. Wind gusts up to 50 mph could further complicate conditions.
