Sacramento, CA – A major winter storm is set to impact Northern California beginning Tuesday evening, bringing heavy snowfall and high winds to mountain regions, with difficult travel expected through Thursday.

According to the National Weather Service in Sacramento, areas above 3,000 feet, including Burney Basin, Shasta County, and the Northern Sierra Nevada, could see snowfall between 9 inches and 4 feet. The highest peaks may receive up to 47 inches of snow, with wind gusts reaching 65 mph.

The storm is expected to create hazardous conditions, especially during the Wednesday morning and evening commutes. Road closures and chain controls are likely, and visibility will be significantly reduced due to blowing snow. The heaviest snowfall is predicted from Wednesday morning through early afternoon.

Drivers are urged to check road conditions via Caltrans’ QuickMap (quickmap.dot.ca.gov) or by dialing 511. Officials recommend carrying emergency supplies, avoiding unnecessary travel, and securing outdoor objects due to strong winds.
