Sacramento, CA – Last week, California Highway Patrol (CHP) officers, with the help of a Sacramento County Sheriff’s detective, uncovered a major fentanyl trafficking operation during a routine traffic stop on I-5 near Airport Boulevard.

CHP reported that what began as a stop for a traffic violation quickly escalated when K-9 officer Ronan detected narcotics. The search uncovered two duffel bags and a shopping bag packed with counterfeit M30 pills. The haul amounted to over 66 pounds, totaling an estimated 330,000 fentanyl pills. Authorities arrested the driver, a resident of Washington state, and booked them into Yolo County Jail.

According to CHP, this interception is part of their ongoing partnership with DHE/REACT—a multi-agency team including the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office and the Placer County DA’s Office—focused on reducing drug trafficking along major highways.

The agency emphasized its commitment to keeping communities safe through proactive enforcement and credited their K-9 unit for the seizure. CHP urges the public to stay informed about the dangers of fentanyl as law enforcement intensifies efforts against the deadly substance.
