San Francisco, CA – A High Surf Warning remains in effect through noon Tuesday, creating hazardous conditions across all Pacific Coast beaches in California. Waves of 30 to 35 feet, with some breaking higher than 40 feet, are forecasted. Officials urge beachgoers to exercise extreme caution.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS), the warning began Sunday afternoon and is set to impact areas like Mavericks, known for massive swells. Strong rip currents and sneaker waves could sweep people into the ocean unexpectedly. Travel along coastal highways could also face delays due to hazardous conditions.

Rainfall is also forecasted for Monday and Tuesday, with precipitation intensifying overnight. Monday’s high will reach 60°F, with rainfall expected to total nearly an inch in some areas. Winds will increase by evening, reaching gusts up to 24 mph by Tuesday. These conditions could disrupt holiday travel and outdoor plans, especially for Christmas Day, which is expected to clear but remain breezy.

Those visiting beaches or planning trips along coastal highways like Highway 1 should remain vigilant and avoid walking near the shoreline. Emergency officials remind residents to secure loose outdoor objects and monitor local alerts for updates.

Rain is expected to ease by Tuesday night, leading to partly sunny skies on Christmas Day. However, more rain is likely later in the week, so residents should plan accordingly.
