San Francisco, CA – A wave of moderate heat is set to impact inland and higher elevation areas of the Bay Area and Central Coast from Thursday, July 10, through Friday, July 11, bringing an increased risk of heat-related illness for those sensitive to hot conditions.

According to the National Weather Service San Francisco Bay Area, minor to moderate HeatRisk levels are forecast for inland portions of the greater San Francisco Bay Area—including Santa Cruz, Monterey, and San Benito counties—starting Thursday morning and continuing through Friday. The warning specifically covers communities away from the immediate coast and into higher terrain, where temperatures are expected to climb.

Residents in cities like Gilroy, Hollister, Morgan Hill, Salinas, and Santa Cruz’s hills could see daytime highs that challenge the limits for those without reliable cooling or outdoor workers exposed for long hours. Vulnerable groups such as seniors, young children, and individuals with chronic illnesses face the greatest risk. Public health officials urge everyone to drink extra water, wear lightweight clothing, and avoid strenuous activity during peak heat, typically 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Opening windows at night and staying in shaded or air-conditioned areas is also advised.

This round of summer heat mirrors similar July events in recent years but serves as a reminder to stay alert for changing advisories. The HeatRisk remains in effect through Friday, and further updates may follow if temperatures stay elevated or expand to more communities.
