Sacramento, Calif. – A surge of September heat is set to grip Sacramento and much of the Central Valley early this week, with temperatures climbing into the upper 90s by Tuesday afternoon.

According to the National Weather Service, Sacramento will see highs near 93° on Monday before peaking at 97° on both Tuesday and Wednesday. Clear skies and calm winds will provide little relief, and overnight lows in the mid-60s mean homes without cooling could struggle to cool down.

The heat will stretch across Northern California, raising concerns for outdoor workers, students, and vulnerable residents in areas like Elk Grove, Roseville, and Davis. Residents are urged to stay hydrated, limit strenuous activity during peak afternoon hours, and check on elderly neighbors. Cooling centers may open if temperatures trend higher than currently expected.

Travel and outdoor events should remain unaffected by precipitation, but prolonged exposure to the sun could increase risks of heat exhaustion and wildfires in grassy foothill regions. By Thursday, temperatures are expected to ease slightly, with highs in the upper 80s forecast to return by Friday and Saturday.

Warnings remain in effect through midweek, with more advisories possible if the heat lingers beyond Wednesday.
