SACRAMENTO, Calif. – After a comfortable weekend, Sacramento is on track for a sharp heat-up this week, with temperatures surging into the triple digits by Thursday.
According to the National Weather Service, Sacramento will climb from the mid-80s Monday to the upper 80s Tuesday before hitting 95 degrees Wednesday. The peak arrives Thursday, when the valley is expected to reach 100°F, the first triple-digit reading in weeks.
Daytime heat will build under clear skies, while overnight lows remain in the upper 50s to mid-60s, offering little relief. The combination of hot afternoons and dry conditions will elevate fire danger across the Sacramento Valley and foothills. PG&E and local fire agencies urge residents to avoid outdoor burning, hydrate often, and limit strenuous activity during peak heat hours, typically between 3 p.m. and 6 p.m.
Travelers along I-5 and Highway 99 should also prepare for increased pavement heat, which can stress tires during long drives. Residents are encouraged to check cooling centers, especially for vulnerable neighbors without reliable air conditioning.
The heat stretch is expected to last into next weekend, with little sign of cooling until at least Sunday. More advisories may be issued as temperatures remain near 100 degrees through Friday.
