Hanford, CA – Temperatures across California’s Central Valley are expected to soar past 105°F this weekend, putting millions at risk of heat-related illnesses as a heat advisory takes effect Friday morning.
According to the National Weather Service in Hanford, the advisory runs from 11 a.m. Friday through 7 a.m. Sunday and affects a wide swath of central California, including Fresno, Visalia, Bakersfield, and Merced. Highs are expected to reach 102°F Friday and peak at 105°F Saturday, with overnight lows offering little relief in the 70s.
Residents in Hanford, Lemoore, and Tulare should avoid outdoor activities during peak afternoon hours. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration advises limiting outdoor work, staying in shaded or air-conditioned areas, and watching for signs of heat exhaustion or stroke. Vulnerable groups—such as seniors, children, and those without access to cooling—face increased risk.
Drivers are also urged to never leave children or pets in parked vehicles, even briefly. Hydration, frequent breaks, and lightweight clothing are essential if going outdoors.
The heat advisory is expected to expire Sunday morning, but more alerts may follow if conditions persist. Stay tuned to local updates for the latest warnings.
