Sacramento, California – Blistering heat will settle over Sacramento Thursday as temperatures surge to 96°F by late Friday afternoon, marking the hottest day of the week.
According to the National Weather Service, calm morning winds will shift to a light southwest breeze by evening, but relief will be limited. Heat-sensitive roadways like I-5 and Highway 99 may see slower traffic and potential tire blowouts, especially during peak sun hours between 2 p.m. and 5 p.m.
Residents across West Sacramento, Elk Grove, and South Natomas should limit outdoor activities, stay hydrated, and check on vulnerable individuals. Air conditioning use will spike region-wide and residents are advised to conserve energy during the 4–9 p.m. hours.
This heat spike follows a milder Wednesday (89°F), but high pressure is now building into the Sacramento Valley. That means clear skies and rising temps through Saturday, with Friday’s high holding at 96°F and Saturday peaking again near 90°F.
No major winds, fire weather, or precipitation threats are expected, but inland areas could experience dehydration risks and overheating in cars and asphalt-heavy zones.
By Sunday, temperatures will dip slightly to 87°F, which is still above average for mid-August, with a similar pattern into Monday.
