San Jose, CA – Residents of the Santa Clara Valley are urged to prepare for freezing temperatures overnight Monday into Tuesday. A frost advisory is in effect from midnight to 9 a.m. Tuesday, with temperatures expected to drop as low as 32 degrees.
According to the National Weather Service, the advisory covers San Jose and surrounding areas, including the Eastern Santa Clara Hills and East Bay Hills. Frost could damage sensitive plants and vegetation if left uncovered. Cold conditions may also pose risks to unhoused individuals and pets left outdoors.
Officials recommend bringing plants indoors and covering those that cannot be moved. People are also advised to protect outdoor pipes and check on neighbors, particularly those who may be vulnerable to the cold.
The frost advisory is part of a larger cold front impacting much of California. In nearby counties, similar conditions are forecast, with frost expected to extend into lower valleys and foothills.
Looking ahead, temperatures are expected to rise slightly by Wednesday, with daytime highs returning to the upper 50s. However, overnight lows will remain in the mid-30s throughout the week, keeping the potential for frost in the forecast.
Drivers are reminded to use caution, particularly in shaded areas where frost may form on roadways. For the latest weather updates, check local forecasts and advisories.
