Willits, CA – Residents across Northern Mendocino and Northern Lake counties are being urged to prepare for a sharp drop in temperatures early Thursday morning as the National Weather Service has issued a Freeze Warning across the region.

According to the National Weather Service in Eureka, the warning is in effect from 2 a.m. to 9 a.m. Thursday. Overnight lows are expected to plummet to between 26 and 28 degrees Fahrenheit, posing a threat to sensitive crops, outdoor vegetation, and exposed plumbing.

The warning affects a wide stretch of Northern California, including the cities of Covelo, Laytonville, Willits, and areas around Gravelly Valley Airport in Lake County. This alert includes both the Northwestern and Northeastern Mendocino Interior zones as well as the Northern Lake area.

While freeze events are not unusual in early spring, the timing and intensity of this cold snap may catch some by surprise, especially after recent mild weather patterns in the area.

This is the sixth freeze warning issued this season for the Eureka forecast region, highlighting a colder-than-average start to April. Gardeners and agricultural workers should monitor local forecasts for any updates as another warning could follow depending on developing conditions.

Motorists traveling early Thursday should also be cautious, especially in valley areas where icy spots could form.
